Subject:  The Progress Report of DONATION FROM BELANDA
Date:  Mon, 21 Aug 2006 19:35:38 -0700 (PDT)

Hi Marieke,

Good morning! Long time no send you e-mails. Perpustakaan building were renovated (because of the earthquake) so the internet network was off. Today everything is starting ok so I am trying to contact you. On Saturday night (11 August 2006) 08.00 p.m. there was a meeting of the kampung RT 01 members and the leader of the kampung announced that there were a donation from Bu Yuli's friend Belanda. It was really surprise for them because long time no donation from anywhere. The leaders finally decided that the money will not be devided same for all family but it will depend on the number of  the family. I’ve put everything about this donation to the leaders of the kampung but I always monitor the operational of it. Total of the money I received in my bank account was Rp 24.800.000,00.  Finally we use 18 million rupiahs to be devided to the all families (I will scan the written report and send you via e-mail, but it is still in the process).  I handed Rp 3.500.000,00 to PKK (woman
organization of the kampong RT 01). The PKK management will manage the money for the social welfare in the kampong (to prepare the madecines, and the added foods for the babies under 5 years old, something like milk). There are about 25 babies under 5 years old. It is impossible for the people here to buy some milk because it is very very expensive. I use the rest of the money (Rp 3.300.000) to renovate my own house. Here I want to tell you everything about our house renovation:

Ø       One main bricklayer and one second bricklayer are doing it. They are patching a lot of potholes on the wall. We pay Rp 35.000,00 for a main bricklayer and Rp 30.000,00 for the second one for one day (from 08.00 a.m. till 04.00 p.m.). It will need about 40 days to finish the renovations. So Rp 65.000,00 x 40 days = Rp 2.600.000,00

Ø       to buy a truck of sand is Rp 350.000,00

Ø       to buy 20 sacks of cement (@ Rp 30.000,00) is Rp 600.000,00

Ø       to buy one door to a bathroom is Rp 500.000,00

Ø       to prepare the unpredictable cost is Rp 1.000.000,00

So the total of the costs is Rp 5.050.000,00. I ever told
you that we applicate the credit of the koperasi Rp 2.000.000,00 We received the credit on August 4th 2006 and the first payment will be next month for 30 months.

Dear Marieke, you were right about your speaking on the first phone you called me. The time, I told you that the government promised to the victims of the earthquake that we would get the living cost Rp 90.000,00 per head per a month for 3 months, and the compensation of the damaged building was between 10 till 30 million rupiahs. And then you asked me: “Yuli, do you believe about it?” I don’t believe it. Where the money will get from?” In the real, all of the promise is just a invented story. There were just 30 families (from 160 families in
Mandungan II) and just 5 families (from 40 families in RT 01) who received the livingcost donations just for one month. That why the donations didn’t solve the problems but invited new problems. It was cuasing horizontal conflict among us.  Nobody received the compensation of damaged building until now. It is very very bad condition.

That is why the donations from you (you, your family, and your friends) is very very useful for us. We don’t know how to thank to all of you. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Of course, we (the leaders of RT 01 and PKK) are trying to get another donations in order to be able to keep the life on. Majority of the
people here is farmers, manual workers, agricultural workers. Our family here is in good position of the job because I and Mas Pri worked as government officers. The people here practically cannot work daily because they have to become volunteers every day to renovate the damage buildings in our own village. It is called GOTONG ROYONG.

On October will be rainy season, we have to work hardly to make the houses for the people who stay in tents. Of course the house will be made from bamboo.

OK….Marieke, I have to stop writing because I have to work. I will try to write the progress report to you.

With love,

Yuli Hesti
